Cars in Germany's City Discovered Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were contacted by a individual who noticed a car in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then found multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report preliminary tests show the substance was likely human blood.

"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.

A senior official stated the vandalism made him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.

"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
